For referring clinicians

Professional Referrals

Your patient’s symptoms are real. A referral to psychotherapy should never arrive as a verdict that they are not.

Sky Therapies is an online practice of Registered Social Workers and Registered Psychotherapists. We work with clients aged 12 and over whose pain, fatigue, dizziness, gut symptoms and trauma histories sit where the nervous system and the body meet. Most of our clinicians are registered in Ontario, and therapists are also available in every other province and territory. We work alongside medical care, never in place of it.

    Referral criteria

    Persistent physical symptoms

Irritable bowel syndrome and other disorders of gut-brain interaction (DGBI), including gut-directed hypnotherapy.

    Dizziness and post-concussion distress

Persistent postural perceptual dizziness and the anxiety that builds around symptom triggers.

Patients who have been dismissed, misdiagnosed, or frightened by a medical encounter.

First responders and front line workers

Operational stress, critical incidents and cumulative exposure. More on this work.

    Adjustment to a new diagnosis

Grief, identity and role change after a diagnosis that reshapes daily life.

    Scope

When another referral will serve your patient better

We would rather say so at the referral stage than after your patient has waited.

    Acute risk or crisis

We are not a crisis service and do not provide urgent or after-hours response. Patients at immediate risk need 911 or local crisis services.

    Psychiatric assessment or medication

We do not prescribe, and we do not provide diagnostic assessments or independent medical evaluations for third parties.

    Children under 12

Our practice starts at age 12. Please do not refer younger children. Teen referrals are matched to clinicians with adolescent experience.

    Care needing medical monitoring

Eating disorders requiring medical monitoring, active psychosis, or substance dependence needing a higher level of care.

    Medico-legal and disability assessments

We do not complete independent assessments or opinions for insurers, employers or the courts.

    Two steps

    How to refer

    Step 1

    Send the referral

Use the form at the top of this page, fax to 844-696-2077, or email the same details. Your name and designation, how to reach you, the patient’s first name and last initial, their contact information if they have agreed to it, and one or two lines on why. Nothing more is needed to start.

    Step 2

Your patient books a free consultation

With their consent we contact them directly, or you can hand them the booking link. The first call is 20 minutes, free, and carries no obligation.

    After you refer

    What happens next

We connect with the client and make the proper arrangements, starting with a free 20-minute consultation.

    Questions from referrers

    Common questions

Does my patient need a physician referral?

No. Psychotherapy in Ontario does not require a physician referral. A note from you still helps, because it tells us what you have already ruled out and what you are worried about.

Will you send me a report?

With your patient’s written consent we can send a brief letter confirming attendance and a short summary of focus and progress. We do not write independent assessments, disability opinions or medico-legal reports.

Will you tell my patient to stop pursuing medical care?

No. Taking brain-body interactions seriously should never mean taking physical symptoms less seriously. Psychotherapy here runs alongside medical investigation and treatment, and we encourage patients to continue with their medical team.

What if my patient cannot afford the standard fee?

There is a reduced-rate stream at $120 per session with a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) working under clinical supervision. It has limited capacity. Details here.

Who will actually see my patient?

Sky Therapies is a team of Registered Social Workers and Registered Psychotherapists, plus a Registered Dietitian. We match the referral to the clinician whose training fits it, and we tell you who that is.

    Do you see teenagers?

Yes, from age 12. Consent to treatment in Ontario rests on capacity rather than age, so a capable young person can consent to their own care. In practice we involve a parent or guardian wherever the young person agrees and it supports the work. Sessions are virtual, so a private space at home matters more at this age than it does with adults.

Can I refer a patient who lives outside Ontario?

Yes. Most of our team is registered in Ontario, and therapists are also available in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island, Yukon, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut. Registration is province by province, so tell us where your patient lives and we will confirm who can see them.
