Brainspotting is a cutting-edge therapeutic approach that was developed by Dr. David Grand in 2003. Brainspotting is an advanced therapeutic technique developed by Dr. David Grand in 2003. It builds on the principles of EMDR therapy but takes a unique approach to accessing and healing stored trauma in the subcortical brain.

This innovative method is based on the premise that “where you look affects how you feel.” By identifying specific eye positions, called Brainspots, we can access unprocessed trauma in the subcortical brain, leading to deep emotional healing.

How Does Brainspotting Work?

During a Brainspotting session, your therapist will help you locate a specific eye position—your “brainspot”—that correlates with an area of unresolved tension or distress. This position acts like a gateway, allowing you to access and process the emotions or memories connected to your issue.

  1. Identifying the Issue: Together, we’ll explore what you’d like to focus on during the session. It could be a traumatic memory, a feeling of being stuck, or even a physical sensation you’re experiencing.
  2. Finding Your Brainspot: Using a pointer or by following your natural eye movements, we’ll identify the brainspot associated with your issue. You might feel a shift in your body, like tension, warmth, or a sense of relief, as we locate this spot.
  3. Processing and Healing: Once the brainspot is found, you’ll be encouraged to focus on it while allowing thoughts, emotions, and sensations to arise naturally. This process helps your brain and body work together to release stored trauma and create new, healthier patterns.
